By various accounts much is to be said about the London party scene. Several people that I know have raved about the legendary time spent in the smoke, all of which echoing the same sentiment– free spirited, non-pretentious, melting pot style partying. A far cry from that ego boosting, stand-around, non-dancing-look-at-my-outfit, VIP exclusivity bullshit that comes along with going to the club here in the states.
The concept derived from the 80’s comedy Trading Places. There is a scene in the film where Criminal/Street Hustler Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy) invites all his neighborhood homies to the rich estate of investment banker Louis Winthorpe III and throw this crazy party–hence Trading Places, taking one distinct element and placing inside a totally different element. It’s like ordering your favorite soul food dish at a fancy Italian restaurant.
It’s refreshing to see a party centered around having a good time. To protect the integrity of the party, the controllers Reg Yates and DJ Acyde treat it like a secret society. The scene is uniquely London where music, fashion, and lifestyle come together. Because I believe in integrity, I actually feel a way about posting this, but hell, they posted it first. When The Smugger touches down in London we definitely want to see what’s up with the party. Shout out to my my homegirl Jenn X Nkiru for putting us on. You will be hearing a lot from her soon.
With no further ado we present to you –Trading Places
